I'm pretty sure my SQL99 reference lists the standard syntax as:

  LEFT [OUTER] JOIN

Now, on my version of Sybase (and MySQL), "LEFT JOIN" was working fine.
But apparently not on all versions. I will try going with your patch but
if some other platforms choke on the "OUTER" we will need to add it to
the dialect.
