#40 What curses library to specify for debian server

I'm trying to install THE 4.0.1 on a Debian 12 Server system. I specified ncursesw as the curses library but 'twasn't found. Is ncurses/ncursesw the appropriate library for a text-only build? If not, what should I use? If so what package do I need to install to provide it?
