Hi I hope I can help some I'm not a developer but I user Herostats with Vista and I have not found any major problem right off the bat. The only real problem I have is that with Vista Business 32bit I am unable to get the ingame information tab to stay up over CoH. Randomly it will work so I know it's possible but normally I just run it in the backround. Most times it will just go to the back behind CoH, even when I set it to always on top it still falls behind when switching to Coh. I do have the Aero desktop running. I have most of the graphic bells and whisles in vista running just so you know. If you want any logs or DirectX information let me know and I can sent it. Hope that helps at least a little. Thanks for a great app.

Just a quick additional comment: I was using the latest Herostats on Vista with no problems at all. Then, I upgraded from a NVidia 7350 to a NVidia 8800 video card which necessitated upgrading drivers to the 162.x driver. After this I experience the same issue that Herostats does not stay on top while playing the game. It's only been a couple of days, but I have not seen it "randomly" work. Thought this might help identify the problem area. Still a great program! Thanks!

Upgraded to a new computer which means I now have Vista. I did see on Known Issues that if you right click on the shortcut and click on the "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" under the compatibility tab, Herostats info tab comes up during CoX. However, that is not my problem (anymore), it seems Vista doesn't like the auto-update feature within Herostats. When I first start Herostats, I get the message that an update is available and do I want to install it. I click yes, and the program loads, but doesn't upgrade to the latest version. If I hit the help button and check for updates, I get the same message, but again nothing wants to load. It does say I am running v3.8.7.0. Unfortunately this means that though I can see the Herostats window within the game, it does not see what I'm doing and is unable to track anything. Any suggestions?

Thanks for all the info, folks. I don't have Vista myself and have no plans to get it, so I really can't help with debugging any problems. The compatibility mode setting has been reported to help, and also make sure that you have .NET Framework 2.0 installed. (Vista comes with 3.0, but that seems to cause issues. You can install both 2.0 and 3.0 on the same machine.) Feel free to continue to post any additional info here, maybe other users will find it helpful.

I just made an update in the latest unstable build - 3.9.7.6 - that I think may help with this. Can you please get the latest unstable version and try it out?

I've got Vista Basic. Neither 3.9.7.6 nor 3.8.7.5 will stay on top of CoH. I don't recall installing .NET 2.0 on here and I'm a little hesistant to install that older version unless there are reports that HeroStats will stay on top if .NET 2.0 is installed - thought 3.0 would be more that capable of running 2.0 applications.

I've had good reports from other people about installing .NET 2.0 and getting HeroStats working better on Vista. Not having Vista myself, I can't say for sure, but I'd say it's worth a try. Are you also using the XP Compatibility/Admin mode settings?

It doesn't seem that you can install the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package on Vista, I got the message "This product is already installed as part of the operating system." I was able to confirm that this is true by following the directions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785.

Something interesting I read about the 'topmost' property:
"A window whose TopMost property is set to true appears above all windows whose TopMost properties are set to false."
[obviously]

"In the group of windows that have TopMost property is set to true, the window that is currently activated is the topmost window."
[important?]

"Likewise for the group of windows that have TopMost property is set to false."

Side note: From googling around it would seems a lot of people with 8800-cards have this problem. If by pure chance or related I have no idea.

If I can help test builds I'll gladly do so, I'm one of those that consistantly get this problem and no trick of using compatibility mode will work around the problem.

That's interesting information about the TopMost property. If the game client is also being set to TopMost, then we're probably out of luck. I'm not sure that's the case though. Can anyone verify that non-HeroStats "always on top" windows stay on top? For instance, fire up the Windows Task Manager and set it to always on top - does that work? If so, then it's probably not the TopMost property causing the issue.

I compiled the HeroStats code using VS 2008 Express with it set to target the .NET 3.5 Framework. Can those of you that use Vista please download it and give it a try? I don't know if it's going to make any difference but I'd love to hear whether it works. Do you still have to run in XP compatibility mode? Does the in-game window still refuse to stay on top? Any other issues?

The latest unstable build is compiled against .NET 3.5 SP1. Please try it out and see if it helps to resolve any of the Vista issues.

I can confirm that this behavior happens on Windows 7 as well.

I have the latest HS source downloaded, and I'm going to see what I can do to resolve the bug. I'll post a patch if I'm able to work one out.
