Heron Designer To Talk at Concordia University in Montreal

Christopher Diggins, the designer of the Heron programming language, is going to be presenting a 45 minute talk on the subject of polymorphism in Heron. The talk will be presented at the Computer Science Department of Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, on March 4th at 2:30. The address is posted on the Heron web site at http://www.heron-language.com . The talk will be exploring how and why class inheritance has been replaced with interface based polymorphism in Heron. There will be an open format question and answer period afterwards which will provide people with a chance to discuss any feature of the programming language with its creator.

Heron Specification version 1.0.2 Release

The Heron programming language, has now adopted a number versioning system for it's releases. The latest release, version 1.0.2, is the third release on sourceforge. The current specification now includes : enum types, class invariants, improved decscriptions of variants, typecasts, and some rewording. There is a new appendix for the large number of keywords. The Heron specification is now quite stable and no longer prone to large changes. As always we are looking for people to comment, contribute, question and critique. Heron is now officially looking for programming language critics. We need people from as many different backgrounds as possible to pick the Heron language specification apart.

Heron Programming Language Specification 1.0 release

Heron is a new general purpose, strongly typed, imperative programming language with support for object oriented and generic programming techniques. The Heron specification syntactically resembles a mix of Pascal, Java and C++ with significantly lower complexity than C++ while being more expressive than Java and Pascal.
