    Windows 10, x64, v1809 post security updates,
will prevent installs of various things.
Pre update, clean install, will allow these.
A verified publisher is needed for installs to be allowed now, post v1809.
v2004 is the latest Win version and another is out in Nov.
IS THERE A FIX FOR GETTING EUDORA WORKING?
i changed the file names on the yellow, red, fyi.
In addition, post updates, ssl email no longer works, due to outdated files.

      Hi, Valkryis,

There's an active email support list where some very Eudora-knowledgeable people discuss Eudora issues like the one you're asking about. It's called eudora-win.

You can join it via emailing join-eudora-win@hades.listmoms.net, and putting Gazelle into the subject line. I recommend it.

I am running Windows 10 Version 2004 (build 19041.572) with Eudora and it's working fine.

Only problem is that after some Windows updates it loses track of the connection between eudora email and my browser (currently Chrome) -- clicking a link in a Eudora email does NOT open that link in the browser, nothing happens. But changing the Windows default progrsm for emails to something else, and then back to Eudora, and restarting the machine seems to fix it.

I have a problem with Eudora on Win 10 as well.
Installing the Hermes enhancement didn't help
    Mainly problems wit certificates
Timothy, did you do something special related to configuration to have it working correctly?
    Thanks a lot!

    P.S.
Also, I am willing to participate in further Eudora development helping financially Hermes team to continue working on it.
    Please, let me know how.

I don't remember doing anything special.
    I'm now on Eudora 7.1.0.9 and Windows 10 Ver 20H2 build 19042.685

Everything seems to be working fine. I still have the minor problem of needing to reset my default email program after some Windows updates, but that's livable.

Not an option for everyone but all the Eudora problems being reported are because of the 64-bit. I'm running 32 bit win10 and literally everything works fine for me. I have reasons other than Eudora for 32bit.

    Thanks Gents
I am on the latest Win 10 version (64 bit)
Adding certificates to trusted doesn't work at all
It doesn't matter how many times I tried to do so, always the same - the same Certificates are not trusted and obviously, I can't get/send email.
It is difficult to talk with Rogers Tec support because Eudora is not on the list of supported email clients
Checked the Certificates and Server names with them - all is correct.
Reinstalled Eudora and started fresh - nothing.
(it is fresh installation on brand new laptop)
    Totally lost in the moment
If you have some additional ideas will be glad to try
    Thanks a lot again!
Happy New year with less problems in all spectrum of your life

Eudora works fine on Windows 10. But, no matter what version of Windows you're using, you need to upgrade your Eudora via the "Hermes QCSSL" update. Eudora can't handle modern security nor modern certificates without this update.

A much better place to get help with this (and all aspects of Eudora usage) is the Eudora support email list.

You can join it via emailing join-eudora-win@hades.listmoms.net, and put Gazelle into the subject line.

Certificate issues have long since been fixed by using Stunnel. I have done so since Gmail was acting up over two years ago. I have avoided swithching to Hermes, as I doubt there will be any future support.

There frankly is no need to do so with Stunnel As I have often said here, the ONLY reason for me to switch is UTF-8 support. That's it. I have NO OTHER ISSUES with Eudora and have been using it exclusively since 199x.

I copied Eudora to a Win10 1909 clean installation VM and it works perfectly.

I do NOT believe in Windows updates - mostly. I don't run AV, I don't click on unknown links, I weed out spam by filtering through a Gmail forwarder.

I also disabled Win10 Defender or whatever it's called. Imagine my disgust when I tried to copy a file from my real machine to a Win10 VM and its defense mechanism did not copy the file but also DELETED it from the source! WTF?!

Disable Win10 updates and you'll be fine running Eudora - in 1909 at least.

Windows 10 20H2 (19042.1052), 64-bit here, new PC as of February 2019. I’ve used Eudora since 1.4, downloaded the Hermès TLS updates, and it’s been OK for me. I don’t recall needing to do anything special to install Eudora, either, though that was over two years ago, before OP’s post.

The Windows 10 64-bit laptop was a month older, also OK. (No, I’m not usually someone who spends thousands on two computers in two months—desktop PC died unexpectedly in February that year!)

Eudora runs fine on a fresh install of W10 pro 64 bit only issue I have is a prompt comes up saying
"Eudora was unable to update the system registry"

I've tried setting and reseting the Extra Warning for ...default...eudora to no avail.

    Any suggestions?

In OPtions/Extra Warnings I have "warn me when I start Eudora and it's not the default mailer" ticked.
If you get that warning, then run Eudora in administrator mode and it is able to update itself to the default mailer

Thread has been quiet for 3+ years but I have a new problem. Moving to win11, to a refurbished Dell Latitude 5510 laptop that I bought from an Amazon refurbisher -- Could that have anything to do with it? Everything else has gone fine, other than the inherent annoying aspects of Win11. As usual I just copied all my win10 files to the new box and didn't bother installing**.

Eudora displays all the existing email, but will not fetch or send any. Closes connection after a few seconds. The log shows the same for each server:, for example
    1588 16: 1.02 Open http://103.168.172.44:995103.168.172.44:995
    3824 8: 1.12 Dialog: "Error reading from network\r\n"
    3824 8: 1.12 Dialog: "\r\n"
3824 8: 1.12 Dialog: "Cause: Connection closed by foreign host. (0)"

Other people are using win11 just fine. Why not me?

    2) Problem 2, SOLVED, decided to install the program since I need to do that anyhow. For the same installer file I've used 5 or 10 times since 2010, a box said it was locked by "an administratror". I am the only administrator. Tried installing in administrative mode, tried increasing permissions for the file, tried duspending UAC (includnig restaring windows) , tried downloading a new installer (and got the same message). Finally saw a suggestion to start a CMD box in administrative mode and run the installer from that. Worked fine and no longer get the registry message also. Of course this didn't help me fetch mail. I didn't expect it to.

Sorry, not "locked by an administrator", BLOCKED by an administrator.
