I realize that Ted/Nick has been ill but it does appear that there has been some activity here recently. Can we please have an update on the progress of this project? Specifically in regard to issuing the promised interim version with the UTF-8 fix? Thank you.

I've been a Eudora user since 2001. I believe I donated about $200, just in hopes of having UTF-8 fixed. That's all I need to continue using the best email client ever.
Let's wait and see what the guys will do...I still have hope.

The thing is that QUALCOMM, to my immense displeasure, customised the
Stingray code they had, and in addition to this, we're using a version
different (newer) than the one they started out with. It's "fixable", but
it does require an MFC expert with lots of time on his hands (we do have
one, but he works only on weekends.) We finally got a clickable Windows
exe a few months ago, but because a lot of code was commented out, the
"patient died on the operating table".
The next step, before UTF-8 support can be introduced, is to fix the code
we commented out. Then we'll have something that runs when clicked, and
THAT is a signal that release is imminent.

Ted ANY updates (good or bad) are welcome as we all start to wonder...if you know what I mean. Thanks for the update. It's times like this that i wish I were a C coder.

Thank you. I think it will be easier for everyone to accept the time it takes if we get regular updates, say once a month. That way we know work is still being done.

I've concluded that we have a ragtag bunch of Eudora diehards here, of which I am one. I've no idea whether this project will ever move forward again. But, I am grateful that those working on the project got us a few more years out of ye olde Eudora. Hope springs eternal in the hearts of Eudora users. :-)
I also follow the Eudora listmoms forum and I've convinced myself that the majority of problems reported there are due to win10 64-bit issues. I run win10 32 bit because I still like using Ami Pro....a 16 bit app from the 90's. Since I've installed the hermes/eudor ssl extensions, my Eudora runs just like it did under winxp.
I run win10 32 bit in a virtual machine, and can revert to running my winxp virtual machine anytime.
Sure, I'd love a Hermes product. But, as long as Eudora sends/receives email, I am satisfied.
People had better get used to living with the KungFlu.
It's gonna be "with us" 4ever. If that doesn't kill us, something else will. The Plague is already making a return via China. That'll be next in line.

That is ALL I need for Eudora. SSL was resolved long ago with Stunnel and will continue to be supported by them.
Honestly, and again, we do not need anything else fixed.
I'm running Win7 and have no need for Win10. As long as Firefox/Chrome support Win7 I am good. If not then I'll install Win10 in a VM just for the browser.
UTF-8, UTF-8, UTF-8 !

Adding support to Eudora for TLS 1.2 happened to be relatively easy because we were able to use an up-to-date version of OpenSSL that was entirely API-compatible with the original. Doing the same for 1.3 will not be so easy because it necessitates migrating to an even newer version of OpenSSL that has is not fully compatible with the old one. I do not have a good grasp yet on how much work this will take but I do hope to get to it one of these days. It will not be in the next month though, sorry.

It's been a little while since we had a status update on the Hermes project. There are a lot of things on my wishlist for making Eudora current, and I know lack of updates are not an indication of the amount of work being done. I'm just looking for a progress check - hoping for a Christmas present!

The next feature in my wish list is two-factor authentication. My Eudora use for my primary e-mail account is possible only 13 days without it. I guess this feature is not yet under development...

well, we never got a progress update from any 1 on the Hermes team. so maybe we users can just rant among ourselves. how disappointed are we?
I'm very disappointed, because I gave the guy a pretty big chunk of money. My fault for getting suckered, I guess....

Cheers,
I had given up hope, but would appreciate updates, even if just to say
"nothing happened this month"

Just so long as I know it's in the pipeline.
Thanks for all your work on this.
Speaking for myself....these are the kind of updates I am looking for. Just some kind of report telling us that work is progressing on Hermes. :-)
