I plan to release v1.8.6 soon, counting in weeks - not this week, maybe next week, though probably later. Besides several minor bug fixes, I found the occasion to rewrite an internal data structure for more efficiency. It was planned long ago, I just finally got around to it. At least for those who see this before upgrading, v1.8.6 will require deleting the prefs file and then adding your locations from scratch. I had Meteorologist for very long. Always worked pretty good. After v4 It just simply does not start. Double click on the app, nothing happens. If I go to the Activity Monitor, I don't see any associated process. Reinstalled, to no avail. Any help to make the meteorologist work would be appreciated. MacOS Ventura 13.5.1

This is the project area for Meteorologist Classic (MC). The confusion with the similar app names is unfortunate. As for your specific issue, I believe there is a preference option to disable the update check. That option does exist on MC. Perhaps you might try MC, although I have tested MC only up to macOS v10.15. If you try MC, I would appreciate hearing whether it works on your system. Hope this helps.

Thank you Jerry. I'm sorry for posting on the inappropriate forum. It wasn't clear to me how to post this. As you suggested, I went to the Preferences and the box for "Check for new versions on launch" was checked, so I've unchecked that now and hope that will prevent the popups from appearing. Thank you!

Hi. This is the project area for Meteorologist Classic (MC). You posted a separate forum topic just before this one but clearly meant to post in the other forum. I can only speak for MC as the developer, but I'll share a few thoughts to your questions. MC can display forecasts inline with the primary menu, but MC does not support hourly. Only some weather sources provide hourly data. Would you like to see both hourly and daily? Only hourly? The menu display would be highly variable. Mac App Store...

First of all, this is the best app for weather in the menubar (and I've tried all of them I can find) - so thanks for making it and keeping it updated! That said, a few improvements could make it even better: Could you make it an option to show the hourly forecast in the main menu (not just the submenu)? Sorry if I'm missing the way to do this! The only way I was able to get it back up and running was to delete (including all related files, using AppCleaner), restarting (this step was necessary), then re-installing, without selecting 'Extended forecast displays date'. Separately, when I didn't have a data connection for a while, I got repeated alerts about not having network access (can't remember the exact wording). I don't think this alert is necessary, as typically one knows when they don't have network access, either already or in other...

Visual Crossing has recently changed their data format in reporting forecast humidity. It now appears multiplied by a factor of 100. I have adjusted for it in code, and it will be available in the next release. Until then, please perform the mental math of shifting the decimal point to the left by two places.

If you really want a blank location name, you can always edit the location name to whatever you like. As for OpenWeather returning null results, can you give an example geocode request that I can try? If it is broken, I would like to fix it. I am glad to hear it is running on macOS 12. Is your Mac based on Intel or Apple silicon? Thanks!

The problem I was having at the time was no results were being returned. I've got a new computer now running Monterey. I was able to add my home location using WeatherAPI. OpenWeather is the one not cooperating for me at all, returning <null><null>,<null> etc. even with all the necessary information filled in but I'm not terribly concerned since other sources are working for me. Only thing really giving me trouble is I can't figure how to make it stop showing the location name in the menu bar. I...

Hm, you are correct. Thanks for the report. I was planning to release a new version soon, so I am glad to include this fix beforehand. While cleaning the code in preparation for v1.8.2 release, my optimization attempt of swapping just two lines sabotaged the intended effect for the rotation interval.
