#2 Under some versions of Leptonica it doesn't compile
On some system it doesn't compile successfully. It depends on the version of leptonica and implementation of findFileFormat. In imageio.c line 60 it is used as format=findFileFormat(fp); but on some versions should be findFileFormat(fp, &format); . This fixes compilation problem.
Based on Leptonica Changelog of 1.63 version>
Interface changes:
findFileFormat() and findFileFormatBuffer(): now returns format
using input ptr. The function return value is 0 if OK; 1 on error
