Strange

After my previous build failure, I cleared everything out, downloaded the gz 
file and tried again. This time I get

config.status: creating config.h
config.status: executing depfiles commands
config.status: executing libtool commands
configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --enable-ltdl-convenience

and then it exits (cleanly)
