Mike, I set the rigport to 192.168.1.204:12345 which is flrig on my SHACK computer. I am running on my development machine. Subject: Re: [Hamlib-developer] API for changing port details Thanks Mike, That's what I thought I did. Just checking as I see the word 'deprecated' around some of the port definitions. Time to get some debug code added to my logger between the GUI and the hamlib interface. I have used changing a struct up until now. I have noticed that hamlib has been ignoring this for flrig and using the default 127.0.0.1:12345. This has worked up until now but I am looking to control flrig from another machine on my network. 73 Phil GM3ZZA _______________________________________________ Hamlib-developer mailing list Ham...@li... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/hamlib-developer |

If you mean the shell's PATH variable, that is only for executables. Libraries have a much different search mechanism. See: man ldconfig > However adding a ".pth" file to > "/home/phil/.local/lib/python3.10/site-packages/" did the trick. It would seem that just making the path "python3" would be sufficient, but I suspect there would be symbol mismatches of modules compiled against different minor versions of Python. > I've made a note of the procedure because I'll probably need to do this > again when Python is upgraded. Yup. Then a few years down the road you get to search through the file system trying to remember that trick. 🤣 73, Nate -- "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. Thanks Mike, That's what I thought I did. Just checking as I see the word 'deprecated' around some of the port definitions. Time to get some debug code added to my logger between the GUI and the hamlib interface. Thanks to Ervin for jogging my memory. There is a way to make such a path permanent. I did this in order to seamlessly test the Python modules when I've installed Hamlib to $HOME/local. The following should work even though I last played with this almost three years ago, In my case I have directories for Python 2.7, 3.6, and 3.7: Create the following directory: ~/.local/lib/python3.7/site-packages Under that directory should be a file that has the extension '.pth'. I created it as: home_local.pth In that file should be the following: /home/nate/local/lib/python3.7/site-packages I think that replacing the major and minor version numbers with those on your system should work as well as the path in the file could probably be written as: /usr/local/lib/python3.7/site-packages may work as well. There is probably a way to create a similar file under /etc for site wide, i.e. available to all users. 73, Nate -- "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. I don't have time to build and test this, but does running ldconfig as root, i.e. 'sudo ldconfig' or however you obtain root privileges, resolve this? 73, Nate -- "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. Python3 (if you are using a distributor compiled Python) looks modules in its own path: >>> import sys >>> print(sys.path) ['', '/usr/lib/python310.zip', '/usr/lib/python3.10', '/usr/lib/python3.10/lib-dynload', '/usr/local/lib/python3.10/dist-packages', '/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages'] which does not contain '/usr/local/local/lib/python3.10/dist-packages' directory. > It's been quite some time since I've used the hamlib Python bindings. A possible workaround: >>> sys.path.append('/usr/local/lib/python3.10/site-packages') >>> import Hamlib >>> dir(Hamlib) ['Amp', 'BUILTINFUNC', 'CTCSS_LIST_SIZE' ... Hope this helps. 73, Ervin HA2OS |

Thank you for reading this. I've installed hamlib 4.5.4 and everything looks fine. I have rigctl and several other rigxxx files in /usr/local/bin and Hamlib.py is in /usr/local/local/lib/python3.10/dist-packages/. It's been quite some time since I've used the hamlib Python bindings. I created a link from Hamlib.py's location to /usr/local/lib which is in $PATH yet "import Hamlib" fails with a "no module named Hamlib" error. Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me what I've forgotten? -- Regards, Phil |
