For developers, there is gwc-lib, which is the first installment of the 
gwc denoising algorithm(s) in a library format.

For users, there is bplay-0.992, which is the tried 'n true linux 
commandline bplay and brec, but this version (for brec) properly writes 
the size of the wavfile in the WAV header if you "Ctrl-c" the recording 
process.

For users, there is also track_rec-0.03, which is a gnome app for 
recording with sound level meters.
