Ken,

First, thanks for posting to the list, it's the fastest way to get an 
answer.

Second, you didn't mention which version of GWC.  You may want to try
gwc2 -- it's got a more intelligent configure script, and there have been
no bug reports, so I assume it's working as well as gwc-0.19-10.

If this doesn't help, please send the exact version of gwc, and the errors
you are getting back from the configure script or from the make command.
