Craig: Here is a patch to add a short file to /etc that contains the buildroot subversion revision number, date, and build host of the image. I realize that adding a whole file to the filesystem just to record ~6 bytes of information is a bit expensive; but the value to me is rather high. It means I can figure out what load I'm running with! An alternative would be to amend /etc/issue with the same information, but I got lazy and did not work out the details of how that would work beyond an explicit, separate, copy of sources/target_skeleton/etc/issue and the same data dumping now done in my patch. Which flavour do you like better? In my experience a version number definitely helps when handling service requests :) Albert. |
