Hey Everyone, I am new to the OE environment and to kernel rebuilding as well. I am working on adding video drivers for the two types of webcam that I have access to. I have read the directions found here http://wiki.gumstix.org/index.php?title=Webcam_drivers_on_Open_Embedded_Part_1_-_pwc_driver_webcams and http://wiki.gumstix.org/index.php?title=Webcam_drivers_-_Mini_Howto_Part_2_-_Linux_uvc_cameras and have figured out which drivers I need and how to reconfigure a kernel. After I ran the following commands bitbake gumstix-kernel -c reconfigure and bitbake -c clean gumstix-kernel;bitbake gumstix-kernel I am able to rebuild the kernel. The problem is I am getting the regular uimage kernel bin file and a bunch the extra modules not found in my file system image in a modules-2.6.31-r0-gumstix-verdex.tgz file. I thought about manual transferring the modules into my file system but I am do not know how to untar files into a directory without overwriting the whole directory. Secondly I am not sure if that is the proper Linux way adding modules. I also found this link http://old.nabble.com/Kernel-modules-upload-td22883966.html#a30283820 in which the author had a similar problem. He was abe to resolve his problem by adding his additional module to the task-base-gumstix.bb. My question is if I wanted to use this method how would I get the module name and determine where to put them in the task-base-gumstix.bb. Also there are a lot of modules in my modules-2.6.31-r0-gumstix-verdex.tgz file would I need to need to add of them, similarly I needed I wanted to delete a couple modules I don't need and was wondering how I would indicate that in the bb file. Lastly if I set up task-base-gumstix.bb properly how would I know it worked, would it be installed in the file system image or would I have an ipk package I could install? Sorry for the long email but i wanted to provide all the information that I had.
