Hello again This is now my third time trying, and since I don't want to bump the old threads (due to the new image) I thought of creating a new one. I'm using the new Gumstix image built on the 4. January 2010 (downloaded the official one, http://www.sakoman.com/feeds/omap3/glibc/images/overo/201001041459/). Yet still I have the same 2 issues as before: No Ethernet and no WLAN. But let's concentrate on the WLAN here. Printout of ifconfig -a: lo Link encap:Local Loopback inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0 inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1 RX packets:16 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:16 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:0 RX bytes:1152 (1.1 KiB) TX bytes:1152 (1.1 KiB) wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:88:11:E4:2A BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b) Great. Now "iwlist wlan0 scan": wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Network is down Okay, sounds not so bad: "ifconfig wlan0 up": ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready (What does this mean!? All I find when googling it are some ubuntu users having problems or things about wpa_supplicant.conf - but the message even appears when I don't load wpa_supplicant at all!?) But now it works: "iwlist wlan0 scan": wlan0 Scan completed : Cell 01 - Address: 00:24:01:38:BE:C1 ESSID:"Router 2.4GHz" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz (Channel 1) Quality=77/100 Signal level=-71 dBm Noise level=-96 dBm Encryption key:on Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 11 Mb/s; 6 Mb/s 9 Mb/s; 12 Mb/s; 18 Mb/s; 24 Mb/s; 36 Mb/s 48 Mb/s; 54 Mb/s IE: WPA Version 1 Group Cipher : TKIP Pairwise Ciphers (2) : TKIP CCMP Authentication Suites (1) : PSK IE: IEEE 802.11i/WPA2 Version 1 Group Cipher : TKIP Pairwise Ciphers (2) : TKIP CCMP Authentication Suites (1) : PSK So it seams, as if the WLAN is found, but somehow I can't connect to it. This is what I tried: iwconfig wlan0 essid "Router 2.4GHz" enc s:"secret" ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.200 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.1 68.0.255 up route add default gw 192.168.0.1 ping -c3 192.168.0.1 (But got 100% packet loss, no error messages reported while executing these commands) Another try: ifconfig wlan0 up iwconfig wlan0 essid "Router 2.4Ghz" ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.200 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 up route add default gw 192.168.0.1 ping -c3 192.168.0.1 (Same result, 100% loss, no error messages reported while executing these commands) And my last try (directly in the /etc/network/interfaces) allow-hotplug wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp address 192.168.0.200 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.0.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 gateway 192.168.0.1 # dns-* options are implemented by the resolvconf package, if installed dns-nameservers 80.58.61.250 80.58.61.254 dns-search example.org wpa-ssid "Router 2.4Ghz" wpa-driver wext wpa-conf /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf (But when I run "iwconfig wlan0" the ESSID is still "" (and the wlan0 network is still down)) Here are some posts from the boot print-out: Texas Instruments X-Loader 1.4.2 (Jul 8 2009 - 21:19:00) Loading u-boot.bin from nand U-Boot 2009.11 (Jan 04 2010 - 15:09:55) OMAP3530-GP ES3.1, CPU-OPP2 L3-165MHz Gumstix Overo board + LPDDR/NAND I2C: ready DRAM: 256 MB NAND: 256 MiB *** Warning - bad CRC or NAND, using default environment In: serial Out: serial Err: serial Die ID #1d4c00040000000004035c1418018021 Net: smc911x: Invalid chip endian 0xc7e543a1 No ethernet found. But even if I replace ipv6 with ipv4 nothing changes...) ipv6 smsc911x Any ideas why it doesn't work? And maybe some input why ethernet isn't working either? There HAS to be an easy way to simply get Ethernet to work!? Why does it say Net: smc911x: Invalid chip endian 0xc7e543a1 No ethernet found. ? Even if I remove "smsc911x" from /etc/modules the message stays the same? And if I comment out all the "wlan0" stuff in "/etc/network/interfaces" there is still a wlan0 found by "ifconfig -a"? But if I remove the "eth0" stuff in the same file, the eth0 interface is (correctly!) no more evaluated. But why still a wlan0? Ar there some other configuration files? Can you maybe give me a list of commands to get some debug-messages out of the system, what goes wrong? or where?
