there is a device which addresses this very issue - the 82B715 http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/8/2/B/7/82B715.shtml http://www.datasheetcatalog.com/datasheets_pdf/8/2/B/7/82B715.shtml I understand that can get you a factor of ten reduction in the effective bus capacitance allowing much longer lines.
