I normally disable bluetooth and audio stuff(forget the name, I remove the packages outright), you could go into /etc/init.d/networking, find the line with "ifup -a on it", and appending an "&" to send that to background, however if any init scripts (ntpdate particularly) need net access and Ethernet is not connected (wireless doesn't start up in time), they will fail. It does speed it up considerably however...outside of that, i don't know of any that can be disabled without messing with stuff.(loosing functionality and such) an alternate way that could be done would be removing ifup -a and adding # start up loopback ifup lo # start up ethernet ifup eth0 # start up wifi ifup wlan0 assuming you have eth and wifi; and if that connection will not be connected normally add a & (or in the case of wireless, don't ifup it period[might this save power? dunno]) so that it can time out in the background. i can't help but think there is a better way though as routers or nsulgs start up in a matter of seconds and this has a superior processor even... -ziggy On Fri, May 16, 2008 at 11:25 AM, Murphy, Corry (Capt.) <cpm...@np...> wrote: > Hello all > > > > I am trying to disable some start up scripts to help speed up boot time.
