The helloworld tutorial walks through several approaches: local sources, local sources with a makefile, sources/makefile from a downloaded tarball, and sources/makefile from a downloaded tarball with patches applied. Everyone seems to fixate on the local sources example (probably because it comes first and is simple). Perhaps I need some large font bold text encouraging folks to read further!
