Hello! I have been knowledgeable about Gumstix for sometime now, though I have never been involved with a project that has required such a small computer. I do not have any experience with the OpenEmbedded distro, and I am a beginner at best with configuring Linux, or apps running on Linux. My project is an educational experiment that will not violate any domestic regulations or laws. I am in need of a computer that I can startup with the press of a button and it will automatically load the OS with no user login, setup, etc, load the proper drivers for a USB attached, pre-amped wireless adapter, load a NetStumbler-similar program, record the wireless networks information (to be accessed at a later time), and be able to be shut down (for the preservation of power; it must be battery powered for mobility) by pressing the same power button. This project entails the recording of all 802.11b/g wireless networks within radius of the adapter, and it will be necessary at multiple sites (startup, record, shutdown, startup, record, shutdown, etc, data to be accessed later that day). I would like to hear from experience users how this could possibly be accomplished, including the hardware and software needed. My backup plan is to use a laptop using the BackTrack beta3 distro, using the Kismet app, but that's not nearly as useful given the scope of my project. Thank you! |
