it seems the newest version (4.4) will work nicely with 18bpp, but the current 4.3 version works too, so you can already play with it. the bad thing is that x11 doesn't work, it's not clear if it ever will, and most apps use it.. well, some of them could be compiled to use directfb but if you buy a lcd now, you won't do very much with it if you can't spend a lot of time on it.
