In the "buildroot" world if I wanted to customize busybox, or the linux kernel, or included packages I would use the "menuconfig" method to make my changes. How do I get to tweak these same things in OE? =20 -----Original Message----- From: Steve Sakoman [mailto:sa...@gm...]=20 Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2008 7:27 AM To: General mailing list for gumstix users. Subject: Re: [Gumstix-users] Switching from Buildroot to OE (Open Embedded) > Why the switch? - OE is a more capable build system - easier to support the wide array of gumstix configurations - wider selection of software packages - integrated package management * enables installation of precompiled package binaries * enables easy upgrade of factory image to current package revisions without recompile * enables customers to easily support field upgrades through ipkg updates > When will support for Buildroot stop? The buildroot repository and wiki are not going away! I will integrate community submitted patches as appropriate and will likely appoint a community member or two to help with this. > Our team is in the process of release our first gumstix-based product=20 > to production, and don't have time for a major change like this right > now. You may want to consider the advantages outlined above when you start your next project though!
