I'm hoping someone can answer this pretty easily. It is still unclear to me (after reading the FAQ's) which GPS antenna is needed (MCX or SMA) if I purchase a current release of the GPSstix. The two FAQ pages shown below seem somewhat contradictory. The suitable antenna linked from both pages is MCX, however the second page states that the GPS board continues to use SMA. Is the current GPSstix the GPSstix-vx, or is this not yet released? I'm assuming if I purchase now I will receive GPSstix rev. 1678. Thanks for any help. -Sam == FAQ A == http://docwiki.gumstix.org/Template:FAQ/Questions/kind_of_antenna_works#What_GPS_antennas_work_with_the_GPSstix_expansion_board_.3F GPSstix 1678 and later The GPSstix expansion board version 1678 and later use the u-blox NEO-4S module which needs an ACTIVE antenna as noted in this Revision Notification of July, 2007. A suitable active antenna is linked here. Note: The u-blox NEO-4S module is also being used in the GoliathGPS-vx expansion board. == FAQ B == http://docwiki.gumstix.org/Revision_notification#Related_Antenna_Change As of July 10, 2007, Gumstix switched to the u-blox NEO-4S module for the GPSstix with version 1678. Related Antenna Change Correction: It had been announced that GPSstix board with the NEO module would use an MCX connector. This is not the case. The GPS board will continue to use an SMA connector for antenna - which is compatible with an ANN SMA Antenna. Newly released and future boards, such as the goliathGPS-vx and the GPSstix-vx, will use the MCX connector. |
