For the -microSD boards, you don't use smc91x, you use smc911x (note the extra 1 in the name). In your Verdex file system there are two changes to be made relative to this... /etc/modules and /etc/modprobe.conf. For modprobe.conf, find the "alias eth0 smc91x" line and change it to "alias etho smc911x". For modules the replacement is basically the same; "smc91x" to "smc911x". In addition, your kernel needs to have been configured to build the smc911x module. If the file /lib/modules/2.6.21gum/kernel/drivers/net/smc911x.ko exists, you're probably fine. If not, rebuild your kernel after first reconfiguring it for smc911x support. I believe it's enough to build the module listed above (and its corresponding gumstix-smc911x.ko) and transfer these files to the Verdex. That is, I don't believe you need to actually replace the kernel you've got installed, just configure the modules to be built and hae them available for loading. -----Original Message----- From: gum...@li... I just got my first gumstix stack, a 600MHz verdex board with a breakout-vx=20 and netwifi-microSD daughterboards. I've managed to get a serial console=20 into the gumstix, and I've just flashed to r1531, but I can see absolutely no=20 evidence that the gumstix sees the microSD board. ifconfig -a shows nothing. at boot time, I see: smc91x: not found (-19). When I power up the stix, I get a solid amber light near the ethernet=20 connector. I get nothing on the board or the switch when I plug an ethernet=20 cable (known good port, known good cable). Is it possible that I have a DOA netwifi-microSD card? I don't have a microSD=20 card to test with. Where can I look at the current hardware list to see if=20 the CPU sees any of the components on the netwifi board? Thanks.
