None really. The gumstix is using the Linux Kernel and a buildroot/busybox environment. You could build a buildroot environment for the x86 and experiment with that if you want. I've done it with clusters using PXE boot. It generally isn't needed though. Another thing is that gumstix's default is using uclibc which might cause some issues but generally not. I recommend Fedora or Slackware. But any will work really Even the BSDs and Solaris will work or even cygwin under windows should work for the buildroot but I haven't tested that.
