Hi Cesar, > 1) I want to use a webcam with the gumstix, which motherboard and expansion > board should I get? I was thinking getting the wifi expansion board and > using a wifi webcam, could the gumstix handle the bandwidth? None of the current gumstix support USB host mode, which means that you can't connect up a webcam. > 2) Also, how about adding a external hard drive and RFID tag. What type of interface does the RFID tag have? I've heard of someone using a Compact-Flash form factor HD. Doing anything else would require a custom board. With the next gen gumstix, you should be able to have USB host mode, which would allow USB hard-drive and USB cameras. > 3) One last question, what kind of GUI can I use over the gumstix? Would I > have to create my own or can I have > it running some already made GUI to be displayed in some LCD or > something. It's possible to run Micro-windows or Q-topia on the gumstix, which means that you can mke the GUI pretty much anything you like. It depends on how much you read into "GUI". Some people consider a GUI to be a complete operating environment. Microwindows just ability to have a GUI. Qtopia if much more fully featured, but you'll definitely have a wrestling match trying to get it to build. -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |
