The bottom line for UPS to Canada is: If you ground ship, you have to pay someone to "represent you" at border as the goods cross. UPS will call you and ask if you agree to have them represent you. But if you ship express (air) there is no such brokerage fee. There have been a few times where the cost of shipping/brokerage/gst/pst has well exceeded items I have ordered from the states. Everyone I talk to here says the same thing dave said: UPS is your last resort for shipping to canada. They are good, reliable, fast, etc, but they really are expensive. I have had great experience with USPS Global Express Mail. Don't know about any other country, but in Canada USPS hands it off to Canada post. It is very convenient also because if someone isn't there to receive the package they leave a card, and package can be picked up at the nearest postal depot, which is usually just blocks away because it includes drug stores and such. Regular US postal mail would probably not be good because of no tracking or insurance, but USPS global express mail is working great over here. When I order large value items I always use Fedex, because they are the best. -- Doug |
