[Gtkpod-questions] access to play counts from files in ~/.gtkpod

I'm trying to write a program to find the most played albums on my iPod.
I was hoping simply to pull the information from ~/.gtkpod/iTunesDB.ext,
but the information is not there.

Are play counts accessible through any of the files in ~/.gtkpod,
or could they be made so?  Or is it necessary to write C code
against the libgtkpod API?
