What branch should be used for normal development or bug fixes, master
or gtk-3.0?

Master. I moved around the branches. The gtk-2.0 branch is now the legacy branch. The gtk-3.0 branch is defunct.

Time and historical inertia.

Will delete when I get around to it. Still having fun integrating atomic parsley at the moment as replacement for libmp4v2.

May well be but realistically master is the main branch of most repos and gtkpod is no different. You ate welcome to update the FAQ as is anyone.
