You could try save/restore. That will save the current graphics state
(including the pattern/colour), allow you to draw with some different
state and then restore to the original state. This is a common and
recommended style.

However the other thing is indeed a bug and we'll look into it.


Hmm, maybe we do need a bug tracker...
