There's no ppc image in libexpat, so the build fails. If I'm right, the solution is to export ARCHFLAGS="-arch x86_64 -arch i386". You may also want to add $ENV{ARCHFLAGS} = "-arch x86_64 -arch i386" to your ~/.cpan/CPAN/MyConfig.pm (or ~/Library/Application Support/.cpan/CPAN/MyConfig.pm if you have File::HomeDir installed, though that's unusual for Mac users).
