I modified the included pb projects to add a "fink" target that builds and links against the fink glib, and it works fine. I also want to make it build a dylib instead of a framework so we can put this into fink as a drop in replacement for gtk, without modifying the gtk apps. (similar to SDL, which has both framework and dylib targets on OS X) I can send you the updated pbproj files, or check them in if you make me a developer.. (id benh57) I might want to help do some porting too. -Ben |

The linking problem you are seeing with the gtk build is because the configure script included in glib tests whether dlcompat is installed, and includes the library in the compile, if it is. I've corrected this and will release gtk-osx.0.2 in a day. This release will also include, the Font support patch, and correct the issues with the Readme and TODO files. Andy |

Hi, all (whoever is here!!) I just looked at the downloaded package and am a little concerned as the TODO and Readme documents look corrupted: [Mark-Jaffes-pismo:~/Development/gtk-osx] mjaffe% cat TODO gdk_window_set_static gravities[Mark-Jaffes-pismo:~/Development/gtk-osx] mjaffe% cat Readme.txt * Begun implementation of missing functionality, see TODO[Mark-Jaffes-pismo:~/Development/gtk-osx] mjaffe% Also, reading the cited message, I looked at my fink list and dlcompat looks as if it is installed but the mentioned lib is not pesent: [Mark-Jaffes-pismo:~/Development/gtk-osx/gtk] mjaffe% fink list|grep dlcompat i dlcompat 20021117-1 Dynamic loading compatibility library i dlcompat-dev 20021117-1 headers and static libraries for dlcompat i dlcompat-shlibs 20021117-1 shared libraries for dlcompat [Mark-Jaffes-pismo:~/Development/gtk-osx/gtk] mjaffe% ls /usr/local/lib/ php php.ini How could this be? First, congratulations on getting GTK+OSX working! I'm looking forward to finally being able to run my favorite GTK+ apps on my Mac without running XDarwin. I'm running Jaguar (10.2.3) with the December 2002 build tools. Also installed is fink's standalone dlcompat package (namely, /usr/local/lib/libdl.a). I built and installed the glib version contained in the gtk-osx-0.1 tar file. No problems there. After that, I started to get lost. Seeing only .pbproj bundles (and no configure scripts) I went for broke and ran pbxbuild in gdk/ and gtk/ (which should be functionally equivalent to using the PB build button, right?). The gtk build worked until it tried to link, and then complained about missing _dl* symbols. What is the recommended way to resolve this? I can probably figure out how to do this by hand, but I would like to fix the problem upstream (say, somewhere in the .pbproj description). If necessary, I can post build logs, but I'm guessing I'm missing a step or setup option somewhere. Thanks, -- Charles Lepple <cl...@gh...> http://www.ghz.cc/charles/ |

Hi. I'm replying to the list and bcc-ing you. We're just getting started and looking for more developers to help. Our 0.1 release has limited functionality. I don't think there's been any thought given to OpenGL, yet. I've uploaded the gtk-osx-0.1 source tarball to the GTK-OSX project. 2002-12-29 0.1 * Carbonized include files * Created Project Builder projects * Added a TODO document listing unimplemented functions * Begun adding implementation to gdk.c, specifics in Change Log Also I've uploaded the gothello-0.3 source tarball based on gtk-osx. The tarball contains the necessary Project Builder files to build gothello. Andy |

[As posted on filmgimp-developer] Andy Prock and I are de-cloaking our native Mac OS X port effort already underway. Andy has been making great strides with GTK+ running directly on Mac OS X. Way to go Andy! See his screenshots at the new GTK-OSX project on SourceForge. http://gtk-osx.sourceforge.net/docs/applications.html Don't bother to download the gtk-osx.0.0.tar.gz version there now. Andy will be releasing 0.1 within a few days. Note that this is alpha code, not ready for production yet. Looking for developers to join. Anyone who wants to port GTK+ or GNOME apps to run natively on Mac OS X should definitely check this out. It seems reasonable to move up by half a year the release schedule for a Mac-native (non-Fink) port of Film Gimp. Let's aim for Q2 2003. Thanks!
