I can think of theoretical scenarios for the _class_ref() failure, but they are somewhat unlikely to apply to the gaim/pidgin case. Have you tried making a small stand-alone test case that consists of just the gst sound code from pidgin and which does the equivalent of the 'Test' button being pressed continually in a loop or something (assuming it can be reproduced that way already). Also, has anyone run the code througuh valgrind a few times already?
