Hello, The European Parlament is voting a directive that will allow software patents in Europe on 1st of September. On the bad side the directive is very likely to get approved, but on the good side there is a proposed amedment, supported by the left groups, that will exclude compatibility and interoperability from infringing. This ammendment has been recommended by the JURI group (the group of legal experts). The amendment is ITRE-15 (see http://swpat.ffii.org/papers/eubsa-swpat0202/juri0304/index.en.html#art6 ). The exclusion of interoperability from patenting is not as clear as we want (see the reference there) but it is probably good enough. Do you think that we should write a letter? Ramon |
