Jeff, Most of my scanning is individual receipt images for expense reporting. I just scanned 25 this morning, and my expectation is that I should get the process down to two-button scanning. First click to start, second to accept the image (or redo). Given the bulk, file dialogs and individual names are a major problem. I'm certain that given gscan2pdf is written in Perl it could be easily changed to implement a auto-filename or one-click save function. I've used a shell script in the past that saved them away with automatic names, or another which prompted me for information like Vendor, Date, and Amount and named them appropriately. Until today I had a major problem with cropping which is why a GUI tool like gscan2pdf is useful, but for batches of small files the GUI is in the way. This morning I wrote a new autocrop/cleanup macro for the Gimp in script-fu with promising results. This would be an alternative to unpaper, which seems to eat my receipts more often than not. I'd be happy to share once I'm done debugging. I thought I would post to see if this was a current feature request, that perhaps I'm not the only one with this workflow. I'd also be curious what applications are being used to organize or index scans. Thanks.
