I'm running gscan2pdf version 0.9.29 on Ubuntu Jaunty, with an HP LaserJet 3020 multi-function device. When I scan a multi-page document and save it as PDF, all the pages save properly. However, when I attempt to save it in postscript so I can fax it (using gfax frontend, hylafax backend), only the first page is saved. The same problem exists when I save as tiff. I haven't tried the other formats. I've converted the PDFs to postscript using the pdf2ps script, but this process creates a gigantic file, which hylafax chokes on. For example, I scanned a 4 page document and saved it in PDF format and the file size is 571 kb. After conversion to postscript using pdf2ps, the file size is 4.9 megabytes. When I print the same document "to file" in OpenOffice Writer (version 3.1.1), it's postscript size is 341.8 kb. Since gscan doesn't save all pages in postscript format, I'm not able to provide info on file size. BTW, the single-page PS file created by gscan is 2 megabytes in size, so I'm not sure that getting gscan to save multi-page documents will help hylafax. Because hylafax can only send postscript format files, I really need to come up with a solution, since not everything I fax can be printed to file using OO Writer. Alternatively, is there a Linux fax backend that can send files in a format other than postscript? Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John Miller |
