    FYI

    Ace Aspire 5 15, Windows 11, Grub2Win 2.4.2.7

Was trying to create a Diagnostic file, a msg flashed and Grub2Win closed. Clicked on Start menu's Grub2Win icon and Windows says there is a problem with the shortcut and asks if I want to delete it.

    c:\grub2\grub2win.exe Gone!

I suspect McAfee caused the problem. Never a problem with Windows Security on my Dell Windows 11 system.

    Hey Ed,

As I have mentioned several times, these are false positives.
They happen because Grub2Win performs several system calls necessary to scan the disk partitions, update the EFI directories and set the firmware boot order.
There is no other way, I'm aware of, to perform these functions.

Several virus scan packages regard these calls as suspicious and incorrectly show a false positive. They often quarantine the file in question.

There is no virus or malware in Grub2Win.
You can examine and compile the code yourself to assure yourself of this.

I have on many occasions reported these false positives to both Microsoft and the various virus scan vendors.
Usually, the false positives subside for a few months, then they return.

To avoid these issues, I suggest you do the following:

Go to the settings of your virus scan package and exclude these directories.

    C:\grub2
    C:\grub2.old
    C:\ProgramData\grub2win.

This assumes that you installed Grub2Win to your C: drive.

    Thanks,

    Dave

I found it easier to uninstall the McAfee app and just use Windows 11's Windows Security. No problem creating the Diagnostic file, which I uploaded for you to see a different problem.
