Hi all,

As of today, gretl (version 2021d) is now available via MacPorts:

https://ports.macports.org/port/gretl/

This addition will allow MacPorts users to install gretl with a single command and keep it up to date with all of the dependencies being managed for them. The build has been tested all the way back to 10.4, so this may be an especially useful addition to mention on the Mac Legacy page, and perhaps on other pages as well.

This build does not support OpenMP and other "extras" so the regular package will be preferred by most users on Mac. But this will be a useful option for users accustomed to the MacPorts ecosystem.

Nice! We'll add links to the relevant pages. Is this a "fat" build? Or what architecture(s) does it support?

MacPorts supports essentially all architectures (PowerPC, i386, x86_64, arm64). Binary packages will be available for most users; to request a "fat" build, use

      sudo port install gretl +universal

This will be x86/arm64, i386/x86, or i386/ppc depending on context. If a binary package is not available, then gretl will be compiled locally.

Thanks, this all looks good. There are now MacPorts links on our two Mac-related downloads pages.

I'm gratified to see them! If you see that gretl gets too far out of date in MacPorts, filing a ticket requesting an update on Trac, or opening a pull request on GitHub, will usually get someone's attention.

PS - looks like there is a typo on the Mac Legacy page. "uo-to-date" -> "up-to-date"
