I just realized that with latest git version and time-series data, Gretl fails to show the NBER recession dates.

For replication:

open denmark.gdt
gnuplot LRM --with-lines --time-series --output=display

Left-click into the plot -> Edit -> Activate "Show bars (NBER recession)

This yields the error message "Dates files does not conform to the specification"

The same applies when using an annual dataset, e.g. hendry_jae.gdt.

I am pretty sure this is a recent bug.

I see this on a recent Windows snapshot as well. I guess this is fallout from the recent attempt to accommodate year-only dates for annual data.
Maybe it has to do with the fact the NBER dates precede (and go beyond) the sample range, but this is speculation.

Yes, it was fallout from accommodating year-only dates. It's now fixed in git.
