#291 Gretl crashing on MacOS
Hello,
I installed the latest update to macOS 14.1 Sonoma on my MacBook Air M2 and Gretl app is not opening anymore. I tired all the versions of the software available for download and non of them is working.
Can you help me? I urgently need it to finish my thesis.
Thank you in advance
1) Make sure you're installing the arm64 version of gretl. Does Sonoma allow you to install this?
2) If the app won't start, open the macOS Console (under Applications/Utilities) and look for any log entries about gretl. Copy any such entries and post them here.
3) If Sonoma gives you option of seeing a report on why the app wouldn't run, please post that.

Thanks for the report. This looks very much like a case reported in August 2022. In that instance the problem was solved in this way: Open a Terminal window and execute the command
rm -f ~/.gretl2rcThis deletes your prior gretl configuration file. It seems that stale information in that file can sometimes stop gretl from working.

We're glad it worked, you cannot really be expected to be aware of a solution in a closed ticket. Maybe we should add Allin's workaround tip to the gretl for MacOS page (https://gretl.sourceforge.net/osx.html). That's why I'm not closing this ticket just yet.
