This project seeks to generate more efficient methods for assembling full plastomes using Illumina, short-read, next-generation sequencing technology. Our research group, based at Northern Illinois University, primarily seeks to resolve evolutionary patterns in the grass family (Poaceae) using phylogenomics.

Other research projects include transcriptomics in bamboo fruit, patterns of retrotransposon inheritance, and characterization of microstructural mutations.
