Oops, it seems I need a Mac to do this. Is there any way to just obtain the files in plain text format and translate them this way? I have a MacBook at home, but currently I'm a long way from home.

Thanks for your offer to help out by providing a Portuguese localization. Unfortunately, as you are probably aware by now, you do need a Mac for this. You could translate the .strings files (containing most text strings) without one. However, you need Interface Builder for translating the .nib files which comprise the GUI (you may need to resize and reposition some GUI elements while doing so). Also, a Mac is also quite helpful for testing out the translated version of course. :-)
Anyway, once you have access to your MacBook again, you are of course very welcome to provide a Portuguese translation.
Cheers,
Erwin

Hi, I am here to tell you I'd like to help you with the Portuguese translation.
I am available to help at the time.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Hi Bruno, thanks for your offer to help with providing a Portuguese translation. Despite the other messages in this thread, a Portuguese translation does not yet exist, so it would have to be made from scratch. Hopefully that does not deter you.
Recently I updated the app to use Base internationalization. The good news is that this should make providing translations easier than it was the before. The bad news is that you would be the first to provide translations using this new approach, so there may be some initial hiccups.
Do you have experience with translating Mac apps already, or would this be the first time?
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Hi b3n, thanks for the offer to help as well. I will soon put up some localization guidance on the website, and make the xliff file available with all the strings that require translation. Once that's there, translation can start. I will leave it up to you and Bruno then to see how you want to divide the work.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
I have updated the localization instructions at http://grandperspectiv.sourceforge.net/localization.html. I have also created the pt-PT XLIFF file that can be used for the Portuguese translation. I have attached is so you can get a sense of the translation effort.
To avoid double work, however, I recommend that you do not start translation without agreeing on how to divide the work. Please keep me updated on progress. In case of any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
Thanks for your offer to provide a Portuguese translation for GrandPerspective.
Despite some expression of interest from other translators, I did not receive any Portuguese translations so far nor am I aware of anyone working on it, so feel free to pick this up.
Attached are the exported localization files. It contains Source Contents for reference, but it suffices if you provide me with an update xliff file (available in the Localized Contents folder). You only need to translate the strings marked with "TO DO".
Thank you for fast reply. Translation is almost done with xliff I found in
your sourceforge but I want compile it because I need to see some strings
in full context to do a better job. I will update project in xcode with
xliff just received from you. I hope finalize very soon.

Translator traditore. This Italian quote is one of my favorites: a
translator is a traitor.
I think it's 99% ready. My weekend is over, so I couldn't go over with
details in the interface. I built the application in Xcode and some
strings seem to be missing, even though they exist in mailed pt.xliff.
Another problem was importing localization. The localization in Portuguese
was split and generated two lproj: Portuguese and Portugal's Portuguese (I
didn't research why, but it seems to be connected with objects-id). Then I
merged the content into a lproj (Generic Portuguese) and regenerated the
Xcode translation file (attached).
Some words were "translated" with the same English words because we used
them in Brazil untouched. Others were translated based on context, not
exact meaning.
I'm from Brazil and maybe my translation may not be so good for other
lusophone countries (there are some differences).
Feel free to send me any questions about my choices and style if you
receive it from people who understand Portuguese or if something has been
lost by me.
PS. I love GrandPerspective and use it for many years. Great piece of
software. This work is my way to pay for it (I think this worth more than
1,99 ;) .

Thanks for providing me with this initial version. I could download the attachment fine in your latest message. I had a quick glance at the file and it looks okay. Obviously I do not know Portuguese, so I cannot judge the quality of your translations, but I assume they're fine. I know that translation is not easy, as I sometimes struggle with the Dutch translations (even though that is my native language and I am the developer of the app).
Anyway, I will await your updated translations before integrating it into the application. I plan to release a new version of the app sometime next week, so if you provide me your final translations before then, that's fine.
If you want me to provide you with a beta-version that includes your translations before the formal release, we can arrange that. Let me know.
Cheers,
Erwin

I already have a new 2.2.2 running with my translation, side by side with
the official English. If a new source was released I will build it. But if
you think it's better send me back a beta, feel free to do it. I can check
it too.

PS. the original .xliff file hold an tag that was orphan. So it
rise an error during import (lines 1660 and 1667).

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I was away for a few days.
If you are already testing your translations in the 2.2.2 version that is good enough. I don't think there's value in me sending you a beta with your translations.
I plan to release a new version of GrandPerspective later this week. Are you planning to still send me an update version of the Portuguese translations?
Cheers,
Erwin

Okay, that's fine. I'll use the xliff that you already provided.
One thing though, could you maybe provide me with translations for the following: Scan Select Other Folder
* Select Folder
These are now required as I made some minor changes to the start up window. See attached screenshot.
There's no need to update an XLIFF. It's fine if you reply here with the translations. The screenshot should provide you with sufficient context. The last string is used instead of "Select Other Folder" when there are no previous scans yet for the user to select.
GrandPerspective 2.3.0 has just been released and includes some new text.
In total Portuguese translations are missing for 26 strings.
I would be grateful if you can provide me with translations for these.
Attached is a zip with the needed translation resources.
It is in the new XCode Localization format introduced in XCode 10.
It suffices if you update the xliff file and share that with me.
All items marked with "TO DO" require a translation.

Thanks for the very quick response! I had a quick look, and it looks fine.
One minor thing, although it was not flagged in the XLIFF I provided, there's one item for which you may want to update its existing translation (as the source text also changed). More specifically:
source: Save Image of View... => Export As Image...
target: Save Image da Visão... => ???
This was done to make it consistent with new "Export As Text" functionality.
If you could reply with the suggested translation, that would be great.
