On HP-UX there is an ied command that you can use to wrap sqlplus around giving you the ability to use the screen editing tools. I enter ``ied sqlplus user/pass@DB'' with my command line editing set in vi mode and I'm able to use vi line edit commands to review the line command history in sqlplus. This works for any command that needs line editing, not just sqlplus.
