Re: [Gpsbabel-misc] Wiki (was: How do you sync GPS-data with photos?)
GPSBabel converts and transfers data like waypoints, tracks & routes.

I have some ideas how the workflow could be with a Wintec WBT-201 (G-Rays 2), to get the gps-data in the picture. First you have to decide how you can calculate the time-difference between camera and gps-tracker later. Sometimes the difference will be important, sometimes not, but it is hard to say in advance, when it is. I am thinking in categories of picture-albums. Let's say you make a trip around 3 lakes (or whatever) and you plan to make a _lot_ of pictures, you will probably create 3 photo-albums, one for every lake. When you make the _first_ picture at lake 1, you press the track-button. When you reach lake 2, you press the track.-button again, a.s.o. This means you may _not_ delete the first picture of every track, to calculate the time difference later. If you do, you have a chance to calculate the time difference, as long as _1_ photo exists, when a track was stored. At home you create a gpx-file with gpsbabel. At the moment I don't know what is possible to do with gpsbabel, but when I read the docu, it looks like you can do a lot. I assume my question in "Extracting timeperiods and certain tracks" will be answered and then you have a small file according to the trip(s) which can be used with gpsphoto (or whatever) Since I use exiftool for a _lot_ of metadata-changes I have to check if I can use the syncs created by gpsphoto directly with exiftool when I change other tags and use "--dry-run|-n " with gpsphoto. For my next steps I have to know: How to extract timeperiods/tracks with gpsbabel How to compile gpsphoto from cvs (but I think it runs non-compiled already) I will inform you, when something works as expected and which options I use. There is also a Kipi-plugin to sync gps. Since I would like to combine it with my bash-script, this is not a solution for me. Al |
