[Gpsbabel-misc] Confirm that Garmin 76CSx does not work with GPSBabel?
GPSBabel converts and transfers data like waypoints, tracks & routes.

Hi, all. =A0Have question; unable to search archives (clicking on "Archives=
" on=20
mailing list web page results in "no archive specified" message).
I just bought a Garmin GPSMAP 76CSx unit. =A0When I try to connect to it vi=
a USB=20
using GPSBabel v1.2.7 (Ubuntu Dapper 6.06), it says:=20
~$ gpsbabel -i garmin -f usb: -o gpx -F waypoints.gpx
[ERROR] Get_Waypoint: Unknown waypoint protocol
GARMIN:Can't get waypoint from usb:
My questions:
1. From what I can glean from Google results, this is a known issue with th=
e=20
units ending in *x, such as 76CSx. =A0Is this correct? =A0Do the *x units h=
ave a=20
different protocol?
2. Does it help to try v1.3.3? =A0The official Ubuntu repositories only hav=
e=20
v1.2.7. =A0I tried using the v1.3.3 RPM file, using the "alien" command to=
=20
convert it to a Debian *.deb package, but it spouted a "Floating point=20
exception" --probably an unmet dependency with some library somewhere. =A0
Should I try harder, or will the newest version still have this problem?
I did create /etc/udev/rules.d/51-garmin.rules with the following contents=
=20
SYSFS{idVendor}=3D=3D"091e", SYSFS{idProduct}=3D=3D"0003", MODE=3D"666", an=
d I made=20
sure that the garmin_gps kernel module was not loaded.
Thanks for any wisdom you can send this way.
