Some of them are notorious for sometimes losing the first couple of bytes of the transaction and we - like many other programs - don't recover from that particularly well. I've never fully characterized kernel/driver/hardware versions of the 2303 combianation that are terrible, but I *have* convinced myself that at least one 2303 product (the one donated to the project by Alan) would not under reliably transfer data to the host under any OS I tried it on. Oddly, I've seen some 2303's work rock solid under Linux and some that. won't.
