I've been haunted by old Garmins enough that I've decided to get one
here for testing.  I finally found a guy willing to sell one of this
generation of units for less than the cost of a new unit and will be
buying it in the hopes we can put this to rest.

I'm hopeful that the GPS II+ shows the same problem that your 12 does.
  Looking at their entires in the protocol cable, they *should* take
about the same paths for us...
