Hi, Mont. First, thanx for the hand. The email delays on the list - combined with a couple of us taking it off the list - has resulted in redundancy as we've each investigated this individually with resulting overlap. Let me run down the current status as I best understand it. Mont> The real problem here, it would seem, is that there are duplicate Mont> waypoint ID's. I went Yes, that is correct. His source data has indistinct ID's so the solution to this problem is to use '-s' to let GPSBabel synthesize shortnames that are guaranteed to be unique. Unfortunately, since the error text wasn't in the original help request, at least three of us had to rediscover this. Mont> I'm not sure if it's possible for a PCX file to have more than 6 Mont> characters for a waypoint ID or not. I tried some hand editing of Mont> the file and any time you deviate from the 6 character field, it Mont> has "issues". This is one reason why PCX is so annoying and why our doc says this about PCX: In general, you should prefer the "mapsource" file format to this one. Kevin has confirmed that mapsource (which also demands unique names) worked OK for him and it does give him longer waypoint names. Just to keep us all on our toes, the addition of "-s" to GPX output when faced with input with only descriptions resulted in a crash for Kevin. I fixed this in gpx.c last night and sent him a new gpsbabel.exe. He confirmed that things work well for him now. The only problem that I know of that remains for him is he's seeing a crash when he throws his "convert these zillion waypoints in trillion files to these billion formats" test at us. We're awaiting a test case for that before we can pursue it. Thanx go to Mont and Alex for the help in chasing this down. RJL |
