Hi Steve a little more looking around… you can use JaVaWa RTWtool http://www.javawa.nl/rtwtool_en.html to add the elevation to multiple gpx files at a time. I dragged a few without complete elevation to a new folder and opened the folder in the tool and export as Tracks and 'Add elevation data'. It then asked me to download the dem data tile for the area and after doing that it output the gpx files into a new single gpx with a segment inside for each original gpx file. You can see all the bits with the new elevation by dropping the new single gpx on this page http://www.mygpsfiles.com/app/ I then used http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/forerunner/ to split the new single gpx into separate gpx files. It returned a zip file with individual gpx files with the elevation data intact. I notice that the Javawa tool does not retain the original file name.
