Hooray for it being a bug that isn't ours. Hooray? :-) Please do try to get the attention of whatever distro maintainers are involved that didn't let you get to your tracks. It's true that Garmins of that decade famously compress "saved" tracks by throwing away time and the shape of most tracks. http://www.gpsfaqs.org/faqs/garmin/xseries/g60csx/tracks.html#notime touches on these issues, but the solutions for the USB era devices and yours are different and there is, unfortunately for you, nothing that can rescue them retroactively.
