Smart icons will get you nothing; that device already recognizes Geocaching features in the GPX files it reads, though it, like the 60CSx that Stan mentioned, uses the same icons for everything. The smart icons feature predates those by far and tries to add different icon types for the units (like the original Vista) that had no concept of geocaches at all. Using smart icons on that class of device will, IMO, make it less useful to a geocache because it destroys your ability to 'mark found' so that the clutter disappears from your map throughout the day as you pillage an area. I cached with that class of device for a long time and flirted with the idea of things like custom icons combined with smart icons, but the 'mark as found' trumped all. (Well, that and just not loading caches that aren't at the coordinates in the GPS - when you're traveling puzzles and multils are distractions and locally, you're much more likely to recognize/plan around such things.) By default, MapSource loads up the GPX with only Geocache/Geocache found > icons. The -Si parameter doesn't seem to do anything to the outputs, as far > as I can see, the <sym> tag is not changed in the output xml. > Smart icons is for Garmin protocol. It has no affect on the GPX writer. There's no reason to involve Mapsource in this; if you really want to use GPSBabel's smart icons, use -o garmin -o usb and let GPSBabel write the icons in the stream when talking to the device. > What I am using: > gpsbabel.exe -Si -i gpx mypq.gpx -o gpx -F outputpq.gpx > ... -i gpx -f myq.gpx -o garmin -f usb: |
